Artsy Knowlegde Background Strip

Artsy Knowledge

Mobile art history app for an art gallery

A mobile app allowing users to view artworks from a local art gallery on the go. The app will feature pieces that are currently being displaying along with background information on each.

User Research

Before starting my user research I wanted to find a way to provide the users with a good virtual gallery tour while on the go. I wanted users to be able to select a gallery near them and view any pieces but ended up focusing on a single gallery in the end.

I also wanted to provide a means for users to simple plug in headphones or turn on their speakers in order to listen to the short backstories of their favorite pieces.

  • Problem
Not all art pieces hung up around art galleries have information explaining the art piece or providing some sort of history on said piece, leaving some viewers confused or full of questions. Not everyone has time to take out of their busy schedules to go visit art galleries every time new displays are up.

  • Goal
Providing the means for users to have a virtual art gallery tour while on the go.

Accessibility Considerations

  • A vivid color contrast was used to help draw the users attention and make import aspects stand out.

  • All images pop have a drop shadow allowing them to stand out for the user to easily tell them apart. And a enlarged version of the image is shown on the artwork page.

  • For the art back story there will be an option to enable audio allowing the user to listen instead of having to read.

Project Impact

I believe providing a means for users to be able to listen to the backstory and history of their favorite art pieces will allow them to spend time doing other things while still enjoying art.
